A Büdchen is the kiosk on the corner: newsstand, meeting point and the shop you go to when everything else has closed. It is also a store of childhood memories, most of them sweet ones.

Cologne has around 1,000 of them, more than any other German city apart from the Ruhr region. We walk the Ringe with you and introduce the different kinds of Büdchen and the people behind the counter.

You'll hear what a Büdchen means for its Veedel (that's the neighborhood), which ones stock things nobody else sells, who comes by every day, and what became of the ones that had to close.

And everyone gets a paper bag of sweets on the way.
